Conditions and restrictions for simultaneous enrolment in two degree programmes
Pursuant to Law No. 33 of 12 April 2022 and its implementing decrees, and without prejudice to the admission requirements established for each programme, simultaneous enrolment in two degree programmes is permitted, including enrolment at different universities, schools, or higher education institutions with special regulations.
Simultaneous enrolment is allowed either at two Italian institutions or at one Italian and one foreign institution.
Simultaneous enrolment is not permitted in two degree programmes belonging to the same degree class or in programmes that require mandatory attendance of courses. This restriction does not apply to degree programmes in which mandatory attendance is required exclusively for laboratory activities and traineeships.
The official FAQ issued by the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research on 12 January 2023 definitively clarifies the possibility of simultaneous enrolment in a medical specialization school and a university master’s programme.
The respective governing bodies (namely, the Director of the medical specialization school and the academic office of the university master’s programme) must, at the time of enrolment of the medical resident in a university master’s programme, verify the compatibility of attendance obligations with the conditions necessary for the acquisition of the knowledge and skills required to achieve the educational objectives of each programme.
